Land Rover revealed its Discovery Vision Concept SUV in New York. It is a vision of Land Rover’s future family of Discovery vehicles, the first model of which is due in 2015. The concept car previews dynamic new design language and an array of innovative versatility and capability features, while also showcasing pioneering technologies from Jaguar Land Rover’s advanced research division.
The Discovery Vision Concept was unveiled alongside a scale model of the Virgin Galactic spacecraft at a spectacular event aboard the USS Intrepid – a sea, air and space experience centre – in Manhattan, a day ahead of the opening of the New York Auto Show 2014.
With the Discovery poised to transition from a single model to a new family of vehicles which will redefine the leisure SUV category, the Discovery Vision Concept offers an exciting preview of Land Rover’s vision for the range, and the modern, premium design language of future models.
Phil Popham, Group Marketing Director, Jaguar Land Rover, said: “We announced at the Geneva Motor Show in March that the Discovery family is set to evolve. And it is apt that in the 25th anniversary year of the original Discovery that we preview how this evolution will take us forward into a daring new era. The Discovery Vision Concept gives us the first stunning glimpse into this hugely exciting future.”
Designed for the future
The Discovery Vision Concept alludes to its unique lineage with design elements such as the stepped roof and alpine lights. Far greater attention than ever before has been given to creating relevant versatility combined with compelling design. This is a radical and sharply focused approach to embodying Land Rover’s vision of the ultimate leisure SUV.

Lotus and Kodewa reunite for the limited-run C 01. Lotus has a new superbike called the C-01. Designed by Daniel Simon, whose work you’ll know from Tron: Legacy, Oblivion, and Captain America, the bike balances the Lotus form of old with a decidedly modern finish. Although Simon is more known for his concept work, and the C-01 certainly looks like a designer’s wild fantasy, the bike will actually go on sale: the British company plans to produce 100 in partnership with German manufacturer Kodewa. Previously, the two companies worked together on a number of auto racing projects.
“The design process of the C-01 was a labour of love,” says Simon, “we have worked hard to create a motorcycle with very distinctive features such as a clean main body, an extremely low side profile, a bold stance, a unique air intake, logical partline solutions and clean graphics.” Available in three liveries, including classic British racing green and the Martini colors, the 400-pound bike will pack a 200hp four-stroke engine. There’s no price just yet, but expect the C-01 to be eye-wateringly expensive.

Like the Air Max 90 Sneakerboot also, it has a seamless construct with durable canvas and rugged outsole thanks in part to its Nike Hyperfuse construct. Throughout the history of Ferrari, they managed to put together amazingly designed super car one after another. Despite some hick ups along the way, many have enjoyed classic status from the production line and showroom floors. The 2014 version of the F12 Berlinetta is a beautifully engineered vehicle that is as marvelous to look, as it is to drive. Originally launched in 2012, this year’s model seems to push slightly higher horsepower at 731 horses and punching out 508 pound-feet of torque, clocking 60 mph in mere 3.1 seconds. A 48-valve, 6.3-liter V12 engine sits calmly inside the long engine bay at the front of the coupe. Check out detailed photos of Ferrari’s latest masterpiece below.

‘Walking shelter’ is a mobile habitat that pops out of a pair of sneakers. Conceived by design collective Sibling, the sneakers accommodate a fully-functioning tent, stored compactly in integrated, netted pockets within the sides of the shoe. The shelter expands out from the back of the footwear and fits around the human body, forming a billowing capsule that encloses the user in tented material. The adapted habitat relies on the human frame as a supporting structure, an alternative to nomadic or urban living.

A collection of unique art objects are available for accommodation, combining camping and art. Located at the Vliegenbos campsite in Amsterdam, designers Annette Van Driel and Francis Nijenhuis have created Urbancampsite, an outdoor interactive display of temporary art objects available for rent. From august 16 to september 30, 2013, visitors can stay in one of the creative shelters, which have been created by contemporary industrial designers.
Each of the fifteen mobile units placed on the campground are equipped with a comfortable bed, which sometimes doubles as a small living space. In addition, urban campsite offers guests a zone for campfires, hammocks to relax, a wood-fired sauna, and a picnic spot in front of each installation. The site also provides the visitors with general amenities — a restaurant, a well-stocked shop, laundry and a shower. The creative expression stop stop at the art objects: temporary photo exhibitions will be shown on the grounds, one of the fields will be arranged as a sculpture garden, and the terrain’s decoration will be changed regularly.
With its compact, tented roof and folded floors that triple in dimension, the ‘Markies’ cottage designed by Eduard Bohtlingk is as mobile as a caravan. It features a bedroom with a canvas privacy divider, a sitting room, and a small kitchen fitted with a stove, sink, table, and multiple storage spaces. It is available for a maximum of four people, and rents for EUR 80 per night.
‘Polaris M’ is a tubular space, made out of an old polyester silo, that serves as a temporary shelter. The spaceship-like structure, designed by Boris Duijnevel, has a small table, which opens up into a bed, and two padded benches inside. It is available for a maximum of two people, and rents for EUR 80 per night.
This large purple sperm is blown up to extreme proportion. visitors enter through the head of the sperm where they will find a bed and a small desk fitted inside. It is available to rent for a maximum of two people, for EUR 100 per night. ‘Darwin’ is designed by Atelier Van Lieshout and was part of his exhibit ‘Infernopolis’ at submarine wharf in Rotterdam.
